First and foremost, you can open your heart and home and become a resource parent. There are over 400,000 children in foster care in the United States and over 20,000 children within LA County alone, all in need of a supportive and safe place to call home. You can specialize in providing emergency placement, short-term placement for children in need of immediate care until an appropriate resource home is secured; foster care only, temporary care for children until they are able to reunify with family or be placed with an adoptive family; or foster-to-adopt, fostering with the hope and intent to adopt.
If you are not able or ready to become a resource parent, you can become a mentor for our youth and young adults. Mentoring guarantees young people that there is someone invested in them, someone who cares about them, affirms they matter, and assures they are not alone in navigating their daily challenges. Further, research confirms that quality-mentoring relationships have profound positive effects on young people.
There are also many volunteer opportunities beyond mentoring. For instance, you can attend one of our mentoring events as a guest speaker and share your experiences and expertise. Primary topics of interest include job readiness, financial management, and education preparation. You can also host an event or sponsor our youth to attend an event.

Many companies offer a charitable matching gift program which can double the value of your contribution. You can support Extraordinary Families with a gift of appreciated shares of stocks, bonds, mutual funds and other securities. Children and youth receive gifts when entering our foster homes, on their birthdays, during the holidays and just because. Further, youth preparing to transition out of foster care or who have already emancipated need incidentals to help them along their way towards self-sufficiency.
